Winter Libations

Fall foliage might be the season of Octoberfests and Wine and Harvest festivals, but there are numerous breweries, vineyards, and distilleries in Vermont and New Hampshire to partake in some holiday cheer and select the perfect pairing for your holiday table.

 

Hill Farmstead– Greensboro Bend, VT

Open Wednesday through Saturday, Hill Farmstead tasting room offers a selection of their craft beers for purchase as well as a selection of curated guest taps.

Honora Winery– Jacksonville, VT

Open Wednesday – Sunday, 11 AM – 7 PM the Honora Jacksonville tasting room offers tastings and glasses of Honora wines.  If you aren’t a wine aficionado there is a selection of J’ville craft beer available in cans and growlers.

SILO Distillery– Windsor, VT

Open Monday–Sunday 11a–5p the tasting room at SILO distillery offers a farm to barn to bottle experience.  Visiting SILO you will get the full tour of their spotless facility and learn about the craft distilling process.

Lone Wolfe Brewing Company, Wolfeboro, VT

Farm to Table for your Table

Farm to table isn’t limited to reservation only small plates or summer only farmer’s markets; you can take advantage of the local bounty year round with these farmers markets, butchers, and COOPs.

Putney Winter Farmers Market– Putney, VT

On Sundays from 11-2 Green Mountain Orchards is transformed into a “localvores” dream.  With the best in winter crops, cheeses handcrafted gifts and even live music; the Putney Winter Market is a cozy way to spend a Sunday.

Caledonia Farmers Market– St. Johnsbury, VT

Hosted the third Saturday of every month the Caledonia Farmers’ Market is hosted in the St. Johnsbury welcome center.  Featuring gifts and winter crops, such a potatoes and other root vegetables

Woodstock Winter Market– Woodstock, VT

A truly year round operation, the Woodstock Farmers Market is open Tuesday-Sunday.  Offering holiday gifts and garlands, the Woodstock Winter Market is a destination for the best in local craftsmen.

Coop Food Store– Hanover + Lebanon, NH

White Mountain National Forest– New Hampshire

Every day before December 23rd, you can cut down a Christmas tree alongside the Kancamagus Highway in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest.  The cost?  Just a $5 tag.  Tags can be purchased at any NH ranger station.  There are some rules regarding location and equipment but not height!

Noel’s Tree Farm– Litchfield, NH

Just a few minutes from Manchester, NH, Noel’s Tree Farm offers all the pastoral beauty of the country, without the drive.  There is a wood burning fire, hot cocoa with the soundtrack of Christmas carols performed for a choral group.
